The Installation of the Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument Sign
on the 60 Freeway
March 24, 2011
MONTEBELLO—Freeway signs
directing drivers to the Armenian Genocide Martyrs’ Monument
were installed Tuesday. The signs placed along the 60 freeway
near the Garfield/Wilcox exits in Montebello.
On April 1, the State of
California will officially hold an unveiling ceremony of the
signs, following a reception will be held at the Montebello
Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument at Bicknell Park. The event
will be held at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Monument will become a
historical landmark in 2015, coinciding with 100the anniversary
of the Armenian Genocide.
The Armenian Genocide Martyrs
Monument was unveiled in April, 1968 to honor the martyrs of the
Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Turkish government from
1915 through 1921, as well as to honor all victims of crimes
against humanity.
MONTEBELLO—The Armenian community
of Greater Los Angeles will commemorate the anniversary of the
Armenian Genocide on April 23, at the Armenian Genocide Monument
at Bicknell Park in Montebello.
This April, for the first time
since 1915, the 24th falls on Easter Sunday on the Armenian
Church calendar. And so, on this sacred day, for the first time
since the Armenian Genocide, Armenians will join together as
Christians to celebrate the ascension of Christ after his
earthly death upon the cross, and also, as Armenians – heirs of
an ancient people that arose nearly a century ago from the ashes
of genocide – to mark our own rebirth as a nation.
Activists
from across California will join the Armenian National Committee
of America-Western Region and the California State Legislature
in commemorating the 96th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide
at the State Capitol in Sacramento on Thursday, April 14.
On April 1, Caltrans will be
shutting down 2 lanes near the sign between 11am and 12noon for
us to take pictures with dignitaries, immediately after which a
reception will be held at the Monument.
One digital billboard 10' x 30'
is on display now in Foxboro, MA, 1/4 mile south of the main
entrance to Gillette Stadium and Patriot Place. It is highly
visible and strategically located at a long 4-way traffic signal
on Route 1, between I-95 and I-495.
YEREVAN—The Armenian
Revolutionary Federation Central Political Council (Armenian
Cause) issued a declaration calling on attorneys involved in
cases related to Genocide survivor
settlements to immediately submit all
records to an independent audit.
The declaration comes a week
after attorneys Mark Geragos and Brian Kabateck filed a lawsuit
if Los Angeles against their one-time partner Vartkes Yeghiayan
alleging fraud in the appropriation of funds of Genocide lawsuit
settlements.
Armenian Rally at the French Senate to demand adoption of a law
penalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide.
On October 12, 2006, French National Assembly passed a bill on
criminalization of the Armenian Genocide denial. Recently,
WikiLeaks published a cable quoting French President Nicolas
Sarkozy as saying that the bill "will be buried in the Senate",
what aroused Aznavour's indignation.
The
90th anniversary of the signing of the notorious treaty between
the
Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic and the
Government of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on March 16,
1921, is being marked.
As part of their anti-Armenian Genocide campaign, the Turkish authorities
have spent over 3 million US dollars, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet says,
citing the US Department of
Justice reports.

criminalization of Armenian Genocide denial
March 14, 2011
About 3000 people gathered at the
French Senate building on March 12 to demand adoption of the

The

President’s aide Patrick Devedjian, lawyer Serge Klarsfeld and
other public figures, Nouvelles d'Arménie reported.

Famous
Armenian singer and Armenia’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Charles
Aznavour will join a scheduled rally in front of the French
Senate, to ask the legislative body to pass a measure
criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide in France.
“For the first time in his
life, Aznavour will take part in a political protest,” the
Paris-based Nouvelles d’Arménie reported. The event initiated

who publicly decried the president’s remarks.
At
least, on three occasions in history, Turkey has attempted
genocidal acts, in its effort to implement a policy of total
extermination and deportation of the Armenian population from
Karabakh. From a historical perspective, Turkey’s current
position and attempts to force preconditions on Armenia, as well
as its continued pressure on Armenia to make concessions in the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution process, are very real.
Referencing historical records are important in shedding light
on the origins of the “Turkish Strategy” vis-à-vis the Karabakh
issue.
An Ankara-based group calling
itself the Contemporary Journalists’ Association (ÇGD) is
planning a ceremony on April 24, during which the names of 10
Armenians, among them Siamanto, Daniel Varoujan, Krikor Zohrab
and Rouben Zartaryan, will be added into the list of slain
journalists in Turkey.

“Mr. Speaker, just as we cannot allow the first genocide of the
twentieth century to fade into history, the memory of the victims of
Sumgait must not be forgotten either.” – Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA)
House
Foreign Affairs Committee member Brad Sherman (D-CA) asked
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Tuesday to address the
Azerbaijani government’s threats and aggression against Armenia
and Karabakh and, more specifically, to identify the “serious
repercussions” that Azerbaijan would face from the United States
if it renewed its aggression against Nagorno Karabakh, reported
the Armenian National Committee of America.
23 years ago today, Armenians
living in the industrial town of Sumgait were awakened by
special Azeri forces, known as OMON, who were carrying out a
systematic campaign of murder, rape and deportation of
Armenians, which in the end resulted in almost all Armenians
fleeing Azerbaijan.
