We
have extensively criticized Armenia’s foreign policy and
diplomatic efforts vis-à-vis the protocols and the Karabakh
conflict resolution process, but a small news item Thursday
prompts us to warn that someone’s asleep at the wheel again.
Armenian Parties Warn Azerbaijan
Against Another War
WASHINGTON– US Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Tuesday began
circulating a Dear Colleague letter, urging fellow House Members
to sign on as co-sponsors of H. Res. 252, the Affirmation of the
U.S. Record on the Armenian Genocide, introduced by him to
recognize, commemorate and properly characterize the murder of
1.5 million Armenian men, women and children during World War I
as genocide.
WASHINGTON (RFE/RL)–Turkey can no longer
count on the backing of the powerful Jewish lobby in the United
States in its efforts to block a congressional resolution
recognizing the Armenian genocide, according to a
Washington-based journalist.
WASHINGTON–The
Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) this week
circulated a memo to Congressional offices highlighting Turkey’s
increasingly stark double-standard in aggressively challenging
U.S. interests while continuing to dictate to American leaders
what they can – and cannot say – about the Armenian Genocide.
As Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdogan continues playing the world’s champion of human
rights, four professors from Bar Ilan and Georgetown
Universities have sent a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin
Netanyahu seeking official Israeli recognition of the Armenian
genocide and an official call to Turkey to bring an end to its
occupation of Cyprus.

its 15th Supreme Assembly of Armenia on Sunday with the election

Armenia Stands Firm Against
Turkish Role in Karabakh Talks
Armenia plans no further
fence-mending negotiations with Turkey and will continue to
oppose any Turkish involvement in the ongoing international
efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President
Serzh Sarkisian said on Wednesday, reported RFE/RL.
Visiting the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, Sarkisian
again blamed Turkey for the effective collapse of the
Turkish-Armenian agreements to normalize bilateral ties. He
defended his decision in late April to freeze Armenian
parliamentary ratification of the two "protocols."

Turkish PM Erdogan cancels
Argentina
Trip
Turkish Prime
Minister
Recep Tayyip Erdogan has cancelled the Argentina leg of
his tour of Latin
America.
It
comes after city officials in
Buenos Aires
called off an event inaugurating a monument to the revered
founder of modern Turkey,
Mustafa Kemal
Ataturk.
The Turkish
foreign ministry blamed "hostile" interference from
Armenian pressure groups in Argentina.
Turkey and Armenia remain in a long-running row over the 1915
mass killing of
Armenians by the Ottoman Turks.
Armenian groups want Turkey to recognise the killings as
genocide - Argentina is one of several countries to have done
so.
President Cristina Kirchner is reported to have telephoned Mr
Erdogan to express her understanding of his position, but to
explain that the
central government could not reverse the city
government's decision.
Mr Erdogan had been due to meet Ms Kirchner on Monday but will
now travel directly to
Chile for
the next leg of the tour.
