STRASBOURG (Tert.am)–The
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) condemned
the Armenian Genocide on Wednesday in a statement commemorating
the 95th anniversary of the crime circulated by the
Strasbourg-based organization’s Armenian delegation.
TORONTO, ON – In commemoration of
the 95th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, over one thousand
members of the Canadian-Armenian community of Toronto, joined by
a number of prominent political and community guests gathered at
the Armenian Youth Centre on Sunday, April 25th.
JERUSALEM (Combined Sources)–Israel’s parliament agreed on
Wednesday to again consider a draft resolution recognizing the
World War One-era mass killings and deportations of Armenians in
Ottoman Turkey as genocide.
The
demonstrators gathered on the steps of the Haydarpasa train
station from where hundreds of Armenian intellectuals arrested
on April 24, 1915 were deported and subsequently executed. They
chanted “Never Again!” and carried black-and-white pictures of
the most prominent of the deportees.
WASHINGTON–President
Obama, once again, refused to recognize the Armenian genocide in
his annual message on this the 95th anniversary of the genocide.
This marks the second year that he has broken his campaign
pledge to properly recognize the genocide.

a forcefully worded letter, Armenian Genocide Resolution lead
sponsor, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), urged President Barack
Obama to stand by his record as a U.S. Senator and his pledges
as a Presidential candidate to properly recognize the Armenian
Genocide, reported the Armenian National Committee of
America (ANCA).
WASHINGTON—Calls for President
Barack Obama to properly recognize the Armenian Genocide and
upon the Congressional leadership to schedule a vote on the
Armenian Genocide Resolution took center stage, today, at the
Capitol Hill Armenian Genocide Observance, with Speaker Nancy
Pelosi (D-CA) and Minority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) leading
more than 20 of their House colleagues at this remembrance
calling for official U.S. condemnation and commemoration of this
crime against humanity, reported the Armenian National Committee
of America.

nationally televised address Thursday, President Serzh Sarkisian,
citing continued preconditions by Turkey, suspended the
Armenia-Turkey protocols process, but fell short of withdrawing
Armenia’s signature from the dangerous documents.

justice for the first genocide of the 20th century.

Barbara Boxer (D) was joined this week by more than a dozen of
her Senate colleagues in calling on President Obama “to stand on
the right side of history and unequivocally affirm the Armenian
Genocide,” reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

He also emphasized that Armenia

Leading Armenian civic, religious
and social service organizations called on Armenian President
Serzh Sarkisian to urge President Barack Obama to honor his
pledge to recognize the Armenian Genocide and stand strong
against Turkish Government efforts to use the Turkey-Armenia
Protocols to block international genocide affirmation efforts.
GLENDALE–The Armenian Youth Federation released a statement on
Friday, calling on President Obama to stay true to his campaign
pledge to recognize the Armenian Genocide. The statement,
released two weeks before the 95th Anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide, stresses the community’s resolve to continue

across the United States are encouraging their Senators to sign
the Boxer Letter, urging President Obama to properly recognize

ANKARA (Hurriyet)–Turkish
Ambassador to the United States Namık Tan returned to
Washington, D.C., on Tuesday following a month-long diplomatic
row that had brought him back to Ankara for consultations.
The Turkish government has been
receiving a succession of bad news in recent weeks. Its
persistent policy of denial of the Armenian Genocide suffered
serious setbacks when the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S.
House of Representatives, the Swedish Parliament, and
Catalonia’s regional Parliament in Spain adopted resolutions
acknowledging the Armenian Genocide.
WASHINGTON–Congressmen
Jim Costa (D-CA) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) have spoken out
forcefully against Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s
chilling warning – clearly intended to intimidate Armenia by
raising the specter of 1915 – that Ankara may respond to
international recognition of the Armenian Genocide by launching
a new wave of deportations of Armenians living in Turkey,

Memorial to Armenian Genocide victims to be Erected in
Netherlands
Armenian organizations in
Netherlands stated their intention to erect a memorial to the
victims of the Armenian Genocide in The Hague.
The Turkish-Azerbaijani Cultural
Association in Netherlands opposed the initiative. The
association leaders stated at a press conference they would
organize protest actions against Armenians’ initiative, RFE/RL
reports.
SACRAMENTO—The
The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region
welcomes the introduction of ACR 148, authored and introduced by
California State Assembly Majority Leader Charles Calderon,
which requests the Department of Transportation to place
informational signs on State Highway Route 60 in Los Angeles
County directing motorists to the Armenian Genocide Martyrs
Monument.

ANKARA, Turkey—On April 24-25, a
symposium on the Armenian Genocide, titled “1915 within its pre
and post-historical periods: Denial and Confrontation,” will be
held in Ankara. Organized by the Ankara Freedom to Thought
Initiative (AFTI), the symposium will not only address the
history, but explore issues like the confiscation of Armenian
property and reparations.
